For over 130 years there has been some form of a walker that enables a baby just starting to learn to walk, the opportunity to move around freely.

The First Baby Walker

At first, the baby walker was very similar to a baby jumper, where the baby would be strung up, normally a rope attached to their clothing, and assisted to walk but with support.

As time went on contraptions were invented with wheels so that baby could propel themselves forward. The very early editions did not have support should they want to sit, but as they progressed, so they included a little seat, much like we see today.

Mixed Feelings

old_walker_2All the inventions were centered around teaching baby to walk, but there were and still are mixed thoughts on whether they are safe. Most state that babies will learn to walk when they are good and ready and that plonking them into a device that forces their little legs to exert their muscles earlier than they should, is bad for them.

Some countries, in fact, ban the use of Baby Walkers. However, most of the world is quite happy that, for limited periods of time, a baby can be placed into a walker and enjoy the freedom and exercise that a baby walker brings. As you are reading this article because you are interested in purchasing a baby walker, let us go straight into our Baby Walker Reviews.

What we liked the most was that the entire activity console is removable, so baby can take the fun to the floor too. VTech prescribes that this colorful walker is used for babies from 9 months old to around 3 years. This walker will encourage your pudding to use their core muscles in order to keep the walker from moving too quickly, however with the rubber seam on the rear wheels, you can be assured that it won’t go shooting away causing them to fall.

In addition, the wheels come with 2 settings, slow and fast, so as baby grows and gets more confident, so you can adjust the settings for him. Not only is this walker durable but it comes in a Frustration-Free Packaging, which basically means a simple brown box. Open, set up and off they go.

For the future petrol-head out there, here is the perfect car walker. Now baby can drive along just like Mommy and Daddy does!

babywalker2A simple design but nicely made, with a variety of colors, from pink Cadillac to Silver Fireball effect and with soft, cushioned seats, your little motor-head will have such fun with this baby walker.

We like that the seat has a 3-position height adjustment for when baby starts to grow. It is vital that their full flat foot reaches the ground so they are not propelling themselves on their toes.

If you want to, you can put 2 AA Batteries into the steering wheel and the hooter will sound. But understand that your little one will be running about hitting that horn ALL THE TIME! There is a lockable jumper feature which means that baby can get a jumping effect if so desired. In addition, the car hood converts into a tray, which we found to be most useful for snack time on the run with a nice price of $101.

  • Classic Walker

babywalker5From seated walker to walk-behind walker in a few simple adjustments, this colorful baby walker covers all the basis.

In addition, the tray has many activities to assist baby in developing their motor skills as well as providing loads of entertainment. The toys include a flower mirror so they can watch themselves, and we know how babies love to see that little friend in the mirror, spinning balls for batting play and a bead bar for motor skills.

We like that the front wheels can be set to lock or swivel, so if you want the baby to just go forward, then this feature is quite nifty. The comfortable high-back seat is built to be adjusted for height growth and the chair folds away flat for easy travel and storage. We think you will love this dual walker and at a price of only $49 you cant go wrong.

mom_and_babe_walkingSo it can be seen that there are many options in terms of baby walkers and no matter your preference we are sure you will find the perfect baby walker right here. We do stress, though, as it is with all assistant baby products i.e. products and inventions that assist us with the baby as opposed to the more ‘natural” methods, that you use these products with moderation in mind. Don’t leave your baby in a walker or baby swing or jumper for too long and by too long we mean no more than 15 minutes at a time and preferably only once a day.

We understand the need for a little “me time”, especially when you are either a stay-at-home-mom or a single mom, but just remember that what baby needs most are you and that skin-on-skin contact. They will learn to crawl, walk, talk, eat on their own, etc., etc. in time but a little extra help will not harm them either, in moderation. Happy Shopping and Happy Walking!
